Textboard vs Imageboard in discussion quality (19)

What makes preventing uploading images improves the overall discussion quality? Less tempted to memeing/shitposting?

Text becomes the focus instead of images. Most boards are just text discussion with images used to attract attention or memepost.

meme my anus!!!

I think it's just textboards aren't as popular as imageboards, so the quality seems to be higher here.

There is some truth behind that, at the same time there are no large English text boards to compare to. That being said, even small imageboards tend to be regurgitated memes and low effort image posts.

That's not to say that textboards don't regurgitate memes and low effort posts like >>3 or claiming dubs. For instance my post could very well have been "check my double primes!", >>2 could have been 2get and so forth. People just seem to usually ignore such shitposting, it otherwise doesn't affect the thread or the thread has peacefully ended.

I believe the difference may have to do with the fact that since you can't use images to attract attention, arguments for one side or another can't have infographics and say "here's my proof, read this mile long image!" and finally people can't use their reaction images which are no better than emoticons. These can be gotten around with the text art setting, but that's not usually an issue.

Another thing that most of those smaller, and larger, imageboards commonly implement are backlinks. While somewhat useful they can lead to people who make posts that get tons of replies that then take over the topic of the thread.

I think this comment demonstrates the difference quite well.

"I won't read"
"put some pictures in it you lazy faggot"
Oh boy, the irony here...

But really, I just wish that text boards were as popular in the west as in the east, but seems like people prefer to have images to aid their reading text instead. As you can see from >>7 example and pretty much most image boards.

More importantly we need quality posters. Discussion can quickly become stale if we get the wrong userbase. I feel as though selling textboards as the ultimate in freedom of speech & internet anonymity could be a good move.

Lots of paranoid people online.

To attract more users we should promote this as the #1 Jihad-friendly website on the internet. Most other websites are quick to censor Jihad discussion, meaning there are millions of Muslims looking for a welcoming home online. By having them immigrate here we will all benefit from the increased diversity.

Not to mention all the news websites that will cover 26ch as the most vile website on the internet. Genius plan.

It's funny, the gfc was far more harmful than 911, but not one bank has been blown up, and they don't even have a memorial plaque or remember the anniversary

Lest we forget 11/9/2008

Shitposting happens with or without pictures. You cannot tell me that shitposting, trolling, and spam rates are lower in any form of textboards. I remember the atmosphere of w2ch was no different to what you see here in this very BBS.

Shit posting still happens, but it's not longer in the form of a shitty image macro.

16 Name: Anonymous : 2017-03-10 22:19

Yeah but you probably define "shitposting" as "things that make me butthurt". Shitposting is the "fake news" of textboarding, everything I don't agree with is shitposting.

Hey! Stop shitposting!
